Education
Dr. Shiro Perera Torquato is a clinical psychologist licensed in California and has been serving the Simi Valley and surrounding communities since 1999. She began her education by earning a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Southern California. Continuing her education, she earned a Master’s degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Applied Behavior Analysis from the University of the Pacific in California. Dr. Shiro Perera Torquato also obtained a second Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of North Carolina in Greensboro, North Carolina. She completed her education by earning her Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in Clinical Psychology from Auburn University and completed her clinical internship at Pacific Clinics Child and Adolescent Clinic in Pasadena.
Dr. Torquato uses her extensive education and more than 25 years of clinical experience to serve families in her community.


Specializations
Dr. Shiro Perera Torquato specializes in a wide range of services which include psychological testing, educational consultations/advocacy, school observations, and collaborating with school staff for the benefit of your child or teen. In regards to psychological testing, she performs testing to assess for and diagnose Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD/ADHD), learning disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorders/Asperger’s, anxiety, depression, behavioral problems, and giftedness.
Her educational consultations/advocacy involve reviewing previous evaluations and school records, conducting school observations, attending school meetings (IEP and SST), as well as facilitating 504-accommodation plans. This process requires collaboration amongst the family, school staff, and the student to help your child or teen have a successful educational experience.
In addition, Dr. Torquato has a strong ability to assess young adults, especially those struggling with "failure to launch" and mental health challenges to provide diagnostic clarity to their mental health providers and families. When finally given the correct diagnosis, the treatment plans finally begin to work. As a result, the client and the family begin to feel hope that their young adult may finally move toward becoming independent.
