Parent Coaching for Children with
Sensory Processing Disorder
Has your child been identified as having a Sensory Processing or Sensory Integration Disorder? Are they receiving occupational therapy, but you still have concerns about their behavior at home? There is a clear connection between sensory processing challenges and a child’s behavior at home and school.
Family life can be very stressful if your child refuses to do daily tasks or struggles to self-regulate their emotions and behavior. Some parents feel as though they are walking on eggshells in their own home. In school, many children with sensory processing challenges struggle to pay attention, participate in class and may also have a great deal of anxiety related to school. In fact, school refusal is not uncommon for these children. There is a solution.

In addition to direct Occupational Therapy services, Parent Coaching with a Licensed Clinical Psychologist will teach you the strategies to use at home to help your child learn to self-regulate and improve their behavior. The combination of these services will be helpful to finally bring peace to your home. Dr. Shiro Perera Torquato is a License Clinical Psychologist in Simi Valley with nearly 30 years of clinical experience working with children, teens and their families. She has additional training and experience in Sensory Processing Disorders. This allows her to assist parents and school staff to develop plans to address the sensory needs of students to improve their emotional regulation, behavior and learning at home and at school. Dr. Torquato is offering private 4-6 week parent coaching sessions in person or virtually. The focus is to develop a personalized, family-centered plan to address a child’s behavior and emotions.
